Our tutors took these exact classes recently enough to remember where they get hard.
Same district, same schools.
Every tutor went through Millburn schools and is still in them. They know the curriculum your child is sitting in right now, not a version of it from a decade ago or another town.
Closer in age, easier to ask.
Children who are embarrassed to admit confusion to an adult will usually admit it to a teenager. Saying “I don’t get it” out loud is most of the work.
Why we started this
We started in the Peer Leaders program at Millburn Middle School, where we saw that a stuck sixth grader mostly needs someone close enough in age to say “I don’t get it” to.
Professional tutors here charge close to $100 an hour. Hundreds of high schoolers in town took the same class two years ago and would be glad to teach it.
So we connect the two, and handle scheduling and payment ourselves. You never chase a tutor or pay one directly, and we read every message.

What does it cost?

Our 24-hour cancellation policy
Cancel at least 24 hours ahead and your payment is refunded; move it then and it carries over. Inside 24 hours it can’t be moved, and cancelling it, or not showing up, isn’t refunded, because your tutor set that hour aside for you. If we decline or cancel, your tutor can’t make it, or we don’t confirm a held time within 24 hours, you get it all back.

How are tutors chosen?
Every tutor is a Millburn High School student in the highest accelerated track offered for their grade in the subject they teach, with a B− or better in each course they would teach. Tutors who join now show us their school grades so we can check their courses, and a parent confirms by email before they appear here. Our first tutors, who started before this check existed, are being asked to have their courses checked too.
Can I choose the tutor?
Yes. Every tutor’s grade, the courses they have taken and their open times are on their page, so you see who it is before you book. Or answer a few quick questions and we will show you who fits best.
What happens when I book?
You pay the $45 by Apple Cash first, then book. We hold the hour while we check your payment and confirm within 24 hours, every time, and your tutor is told once we have. If we decline it, or don’t confirm it in that time, the time is released and your $45 is refunded.
What if my child doesn’t click with the tutor?
Tell us and we will match a different one. There is no charge for switching and you do not need to explain why — fit matters more than persistence, especially for a child who is already frustrated.
How long is a session?
One hour. Every session is the same length, so the price is the hourly rate and there is nothing to work out.
Where do sessions happen?
At the Millburn Free Public Library or online, at the same rate, and never at anyone’s home. Not every tutor meets at the library: each tutor’s page says whether they meet there, online, or both.
Can I stay during the session?
Yes, always. Many parents sit in on the first session and step back afterwards. At the library you are welcome to stay at the table or read nearby, and online you can sit beside them the whole time.
How do I pay?
You pay $45 by Apple Cash to millburnpeertutoring@gmail.com when you book, before the session. There is no package to buy: one session, one payment. If we decline your booking, or you cancel more than 24 hours before it starts, you get your $45 back. Cancelling within 24 hours, or not showing up, isn’t refunded.
What if the tutor can’t make it?
You pay nothing for a session that does not happen on our side, and we will find you another time or another tutor.
Who do I deal with, the tutor or you?
Us. Scheduling, changes and payment all come to us, so you never chase a teenager about a time or a bill. You can message your tutor through the site, and we read every message.
Is my child’s information private?
Yes. We keep only your child’s first name and grade, and for an online session their email if you give it, used only to send the Meet link. A tutor sees only what teaching needs, and nothing about a family is ever public. Our privacy page has the details.
